Golden-crowned Kinglet
The Golden-crowned Kinglet, Regulus satrapa, is a very small songbird.
In coniferous forests across Canada, the northeastern and western United States, Mexico and Central America is where they breed. A well-concealed hanging cup suspended from a conifer branch is where they nest.
Identification Tips:• Length: 3.5 inches
• Very small, active bird that often flicks its wings
• Thin bill
• Yellow crown surrounded by black
• White supercilium
• Black eyeline and whisker
• Grayish-olive upperparts
• Whitish underparts and wing bars
• Yellow edges to flight feathers and tail
• Male has orange patch in center of yellow crown
Some birds are permanent residents in coastal regions and in the southern parts of their range. They forage actively in trees or shrubs, mainly eating insects, insect eggs and spiders.
