The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island,
and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there,
and find for herself a place of rest

These birds mainly eat large insects, with invertebrates often comprising more than half of the birds diet. Favored are beetles, moths, crickets, grasshoppers and cicadas. Small mammals, ranging from shrews to rabbits, are taken, though small rodents comprise about 67% of mammals taken. Small birds ranging from chickadees to rock pigeons are often taken. Irregularly, reptiles, amphibians and fish are also preyed on.
Eastern Screech-Owls are active at night or dusk. They use their excellent hearing and night vision to locate prey.
