    It’s best to have failure happen early in life. It wakes up the Phoenix bird in you so you rise from the ashes.

    Fork_tailed Storm Petrel

    Among the Tubinares of the north Pacific Ocean this beautiful little bird is one of the most widely distributed and most universally common species.

    Eggs: Both sexes incubate, relieving each other at night and morning.

    Identification Tips:

    * Length: 7.5 inches Wingspan: 18 inches
    * Sexes similar
    * Pelagic bird only coming ashore to breed
    * Dark bill with tube on top
    * Pale gray plumage
    * Dark ear patch
    * Underwings partly dark
    * Forked tail

    In North America, it breeds on islands on the Aleutian Islands off Alaska, and on islands along the coasts of British Columbia in Canada and the Pacific Northwest in the United States. These birds also breed on the Kuril Islands off Kamchatka.

    It feeds on mainly planktonic crustaceans, small fish and squid. It will also take offal. It feeds similarly to other birds of the same species, picking food of the surface of the water while in flight. This bird does follow ships.
