Bird Stamps Issued by the USPS – Some Current Some Older

Birds are everywhere. So much so we take them for granted. So it is not surprising that even governments take notice of them too. From all sorts of conservation efforts for certain bird species to printing bird stamps.

Yes bird stamps. I’m sure you’ve noticed them. And you don’t have to be a bird watcher or stamp collector.

Birds in Winter stamps currently available at the US Postal Service

In the US every so often there is a new bird stamp or often a series of several bird stamps. Stamp collectors get busy and buy first edition and certain blocks of stamps with plate numbers in the corner of a sheet of stamps.

That makes the stamps more valuable and rare to stamp collectors. This may have changed some since I was a teenager, long ago when I used to collect stamps. Not only can you buy US stamps at the post office or online there are a few other outlets where they can be purchased.

There are other products that take advantage of bird stamps. There are magnetic clips and posters to name just a couple of items.
These stamps are commonly referred to as “duck stamps.” However their correct name is “U.S. Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamps.” That’s what is shown on the poster. The migratory birds include not only ducks, but also swans, geese, and other waterfowl. The stamps represent an extremely successful United States government program.
