Television is a golden goose that lays scrambled eggs…

beautiful thoughts

Television is a golden goose that lays scrambled eggs; and it is futile and probably fatal to beat it for not laying caviar. Anyway, more people like scrambled eggs than caviar.

Canada Goose

Canada Goose: Have you seen this bird?

Canada Goose

The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) is a goose belonging to the genus Branta, which is native to North America. It is quite often called the Canadian Goose, but that name is not strictly correct, according to the American Ornithologists’ Union.

Identification Tips:
• Length: 16-25 inches Wingspan: 50-68 inches
• Sexes similar
• Large long-necked goose
• Black bill, head and neck
• White throat patch extends up to cheek
• Brown back, upper wing and flanks
• Brownish-white breast and belly
• White upper tail and under tail coverts contrast with black tail
• Great size variation, with some northern subspecies duck-sized
• Immature similar to adult

This species is native to North America and breeds in Canada and the northern United States. Its nest is usually located in an elevated area near water such as streams, lakes, ponds. It’s also sometimes found on a beaver lodge. Canada Goose eggs are laid in a shallow depression lined with plant material and down. The Great Lakes region maintains a very large population of Canada Geese.

Canada Geese are herbivores although they sometimes eat small insects and fish. Their diet includes green vegetation and grains such as wheat, beans, rice, and corn when available.

It is a blind goose …

It is a blind goose that cometh to the fox’s sermon

A John Lyly quotation

Snow and Ross goose

Identify this bird

Identification:
• Length: 19 inches Wingspan: 58-59 inches
• Sexes similar
• Medium-sized long-necked goose
• Different color morphs
• Frequently gathers in huge flocks
• Sometimes hybridizes with similar Ross’s Goose

The food of the snow goose is largely vegetable, in fact almost wholly so during the greater part of its sojourn in its winter home. Various kinds of ordinary grass form a large part of this bird’s food, at least during their winter residence in the United States.

Snow geese dispense shrill falsetto cries as they fly about in companies of their own kind, or else mingle sociably with other species.

The snow goose, although it plays a less conspicuous part in the interior of the country, where it seldom alights, becomes the first and greatest object of sport after the flocks alight in James Bay. The havoc spread throughout their ranks increases as the season advances and their crowds thicken.
