Eastern Bluebird
Bluebirds are one of the few thrush genera in the Americas. They have blue, or blue and red, plumage. Female birds are less brightly colored than males, although color patterns are similar and there is no noticeable difference in size between sexes.
The bluebirds are a group of medium-sized, mostly insectivorous or omnivorous birds in the genus Sialia of the thrush family (Turdidae).
Bluebirds are territorial, prefer open grassland with scattered trees and are cavity nesters, similar to woodpeckers.
Predators of young bluebirds in the nests can include snakes, cats and raccoons. Non-native and native bird species competing with bluebirds for nesting locations include the Common Starling, American Crow, and House Sparrow, which take over the nesting sites of bluebirds, killing young and smashing eggs and probably killing adult bluebirds.

When Nature made the bluebird she wished to propitiate both the sky and the earth, so she gave him the color of the one on his back and the hue of the other on his breast, and ordained that his appearance in spring should denote that the strife and war between these two elements was at an end. He is the peace-harbinger; in him the celestial and terrestrial strike hands and are fast friends. Five little blue birds, hopping by my door
One went to build a nest, and then there were four.

Two little blue birds singing for fun
One flew away, and then there was one.
One little blue bird sitting in the sun
He took a little nap, and then there was none.

The mockingbird is truly named, for mockingly says he,
“I mimic birds you’d never hear, if it were not for me.”
These are birds that won’t be found in your places strifed and harrowed,

You’ve never heard, so never miss, a plaintive bluebird sing.
But more than birds, entire worlds, have fled upon the wing.
